The F-M Acro Team is a group of spirited, athletic gymnasts who specialize in entertaining crowds throughout the United States with their precision tumbling and mini-tramping. "Acro….short for Acrobatic"…. The F-M Acro Team has a tradition of excellence that spans over a quarter of a century.
"We've never had an act that was as well-staged and as well-accepted…," remarked Joe Axelson, general manager of the NBA Sacramento Kings, a few years ago. Practically every official in the league echoes his praises with David Stern, NBA Commissioner, bolstering the group from Fargo, ND - Moorhead, MN with high praise every year after they've wowed another crowd.
The 36 year tradition has a highlight list that basketball enthusiasts can only dream of: photo shoots with Charles Barkley, Lynn Swan, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Isaiah Thomas, Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, Dikembi Motumbo, Joe Dumars, John Stockton, Doc Rivers, Dominique Wilkins, Phil Jackson, and Michael Jordan; a specially requested performance at Dr. Julius Erving's last game in Philadelphia, and 9 NBA All-Star appearances as the featured half-time.
What is the mystique about this small group of dedicated young athletes who sprint down carpeted runways of "spring floor" to either tumble through the air in a series of back handsprings and somersaults or launch their graceful bodies high into the air with the assistance of a "mini-tramp"? Are they really as delighted to perform these "risky" stunts as they seem? Can any group of kids be as wholesome and fresh as these youngsters appear?
In all cases, the answer is a resounding YES! When their talent and enthusiasm come together in front of an appreciative crowd, something magic happens. The mystique is best explained by the group's impact on people of all ages. The first reaction is disbelief, because there is so much happening at once; then comes the recognition of their wonderful athleticism, followed by sheer joy at watching their exuberance and their obvious enjoyment. These young people have a lot of fun doing what they do, and that is infectious as well as very entertaining. |
